Ericson 35 Mark 2 Racer/Cruiser Masthead Sloop
Bruce King designed classic Ericson 35 foot Mark 2 racer/cruiser sailboat equipped for Bluewater Cruising - or for West Coast runs to Mexico for the Baja Ha-Ha. Just completed 1500 nautical mile journey from Vancouver to Southern California. A must see jewel, ported in beautiful Newport Beach, California.
Ericson 35s are well-loved sailboats that have navigated oceans, won ocean races and have proven themselves to be safe vessels that provide years of enjoyment for those individuals who are fortunate enough to own them. This one is ready to go – what is your dream….Live IT !!!
There were only 600 E35-2’s built between 1970 and 1981. Mine is hull 482 - one of the last with many refinements. The only real design flaw for cruising was the original Atomic 4 gas engine. My 35 was upgraded at a cost of over $10,000 to a Universal 4 cyl 30 hp Diesel in the mid-90’s, making it the perfect cruising rig and the best Bluewater sailboat available for the reasonable price of $26,000. The diesel, transmission and Maxi-prop are worth over $15,000 alone.
The boat design has many interesting innovations--for example, an internally-ballasted lead keel which is an integral part of the hull. With a spade rudder, deck-mounted mast and a double-spreader rig, in many ways she was years ahead of her time, and even by today's standards, the 35 Mark 2 is a nicely appointed and solidly built but reasonably nimble cruiser with handsome lines. They were also built with Ericson's typical attention to detail and nicely appointed, and this particular boat is a very nice two-owner example of the design.
Sleeps 6 with a large single quarterberth, double in main salon, single in main salon and a large double Vberth forward. All new cushions this year! There is a sit down Captain's station facing forward on the port side with chart table, electronic world charts on a 17 inch laptop, storage beneath and chart storage bins. There is also a U shaped galley, all in a warm, rich interior. The shelves and cabinets provide abundant storage.
This Ericson 35 features the traditional layout. The bulkheads are paneled in teak laminate and the sole and ceiling are white fiberglass. The salon layout includes port and starboard settees with dinette to port. The galley is starboard and nav station opposite port. A quarter berth is aft with dimensions long enough to accommodate the tall sailor. The forward V-berth is equally accommodating. The head is new this year and is located port between the salon and forward berth with a hanging locker opposite.
Overall, a very clean, comfortable and efficient interior.
